after that i got back home and was lying on the bed readin the novel i borrowed from yifeng. chit chatted with my mom and was tellin her about how i was tellin shaikha over msn yesterday on how first cousins can also get married but the thing is, it's only possible to do so with the mom's side of the family and not the dad's side as the genes are largely from the male and being inter-married with relatives with the same genes expose them to the risk of givin birth to a deformed baby or such. then i gav reference to the other dangers of inter-breedin amongst related species with cheetahs as my example since they breed amongst the same species and hv their genes duplicated over the generations and thus making them super vulnerable to a common disease where once it attacks a particular gene of the cheetah that could be found in the majority of cheetah species, they'll probably all kena the disease and die. that explains the need for variety. in the past, even getting married with someone with the same surname exposes us to that risk but i think now we're pretty rojak already. shaikha was pretty surprised on how i got to know all these. discovery channel does the trick and also of course, read ups. somehow when i find something interesting such as this i'll absorb that information pretty naturally.
anyway, since i was into this topic abt marriage amongst related in our human kind which simply means, amongst our relatives, my mom said something that would've made me choke on water if i was drinking or fall off my chair if i was sitting on one. too bad i was lying on my bed when we were chatting and she was somewhere outside on the armchair. perhaps i should've done the dramatic effect to emphasize on the degree of my surprised self by rollin off the bed.
anyway, lotsa relatives came on that sunday when i invited them over for my birthday. and of course that included bryan and his siblings. i've always been much closer to them since young cos i go out with them more often than my other cousins and is especially closer to bryan cos i treat him like my younger brother somehow. anyway i'm glad we're still as close as we were when we were kids. but that's about as far as it gets. i have this uncle who is i presume, one of the younger brother of my dad. normally i'll just call him uncle lawrence or something. my mom was telling me that he asked her in hokkien if me n bryan 'gia'.
gia, if i were to give a literal translation, it would mean walk. but wad it means basically is whether me n bryan is going steady. my reaction was simply to gape and say a very loud "HUH!?"
it's like my gawd. wad sia.. to think of hearin it from my own relative! which is obviously nonsense lah cos to me that kiddo is just like a brother of my own. but of course, what caused him to giv such a erratic comment was cos he observed me n bryan to be pretty close. like stickin ard and playin with each other e.g. wrestling n poking n stuff.
anyway enough of this mad comment.
i went out to bugis junction to get some stuff and in this shop (forgot the shop name) in the shopping mall that has many rather special and unique gift items or handicrafts that aids in making the presents all the more special.
